Owner Preferences: How to Set Them

Owner preferences allow you to define the type of tenant you're looking for, so Squarelly's compatibility engine can surface the most relevant matches for your property — and filter out enquiries that aren't a good fit.

Where to Set Your Preferences

Navigate to your Landlord Dashboard and select Preferences from your profile or listing settings. Preferences can be set at account level (applying to all listings) or individually per property.

What Preferences Can You Set?

  • Tenant type — Professionals, students, families, couples, single occupants
  • Occupancy limit — Maximum number of tenants for the property
  • Pet policy — Pets allowed, not allowed, or case-by-case
  • Smoking policy — Permitted or non-permitted
  • Minimum tenancy length — Short-term, six months, one year, or longer
  • Move-in timeline — When you need the property occupied by
  • Additional requirements — Any other criteria relevant to your property or situation

How Preferences Affect Matching

Your preferences feed directly into Squarelly's compatibility scoring engine. Renters whose profiles align with your stated preferences will receive a higher compatibility score for your listing — making them more likely to reach out and more likely to be a genuine fit when they do.

Setting clear, honest preferences leads to better quality enquiries and saves time for both sides.

Note: Preferences are used to improve match quality and are not legally binding screening criteria. All tenancy decisions must comply with applicable anti-discrimination laws. See the Legal & Compliance section for guidance.
