On Squarelly, expressing interest in a property is straightforward — but it's designed to be intentional. Before you can connect with a landlord or property manager directly, there are a few steps to complete.
Step 1 — Find a Property You're Interested In
Browse your matched listings, explore the property details, virtual tour, and compatibility score. When you've found a property you want to pursue, make sure you're ready to make genuine contact.
Step 2 — Ensure Your Profile Is Complete and Verified
To apply, you must have:
- A completed renter profile with up-to-date preferences
- A verified identity — Squarelly uses Stripe Identity for verification. See Identity Verification in Getting Started for full details.
This is required to protect both you and the landlord.
Step 3 — Initiate Contact
When you're ready, express your interest through the listing. The landlord or property manager is notified that you'd like to connect, and is asked to confirm whether the property is currently available.
No payment is taken at this stage.
Step 4 — Wait for Availability Confirmation
The landlord will respond in one of two ways:
- Property is available — The 2% contact fee is charged and the direct chat is unlocked immediately.
- Property is not yet available — You'll be notified, along with an estimated availability date provided by the landlord. You can then choose to cancel at no cost, or proceed and pay the 2% fee to open the chat anyway.
See What Happens After Paying the Fee for full details on both scenarios.
Step 5 — Make Direct Contact
With the chat unlocked, you can communicate directly with the landlord or property manager through the platform. Squarelly gives you the connection; the conversation is yours to lead.
Step 6 — Progress the Rental
Use Squarelly's documentation and compliance tools to support the next stages — referencing, contracts, and move-in preparation.
Note: Initiating contact does not guarantee availability or a response. Always confirm key details early in your first message.
